Global Star Party 27 Part 6

Transcript:

hey everybody this is scott roberts here
with
explore scientific and uh on this
segment of the
the explore alliance presents we're
going to have a global star party like
no other
it's all to celebrate the great
conjunction of jupiter and saturn
and this evening i was outside explore
scientific looking at it with one of our
refractors
and it was just god it was just so
amazing to see jupiter and saturn
in a 10 millimeter eyepiece you know
with space
around it and they were just so
beautiful
uh you know i've just it's you know i've
seen eclipses
i've seen supernova i've seen comets i
watched
you know comet shoemaker levy 9 crash
into jupiter
i've seen some really really amazing
stuff and this
is truly truly special so you're not
going to want to miss it
we have we have astronomers from around
the world
and i mean literally from around the
world all the way from uh
you know out towards you know africa
europe uh we've got uh straw
uh well uh coming up here in just a few
hours at
three o'clock in the morning central uh
we've got
um uh christopher go in the philippines
he's standing by uh getting ready
to image uh live for us the
uh this conjunction and christopher goes
really truly one of the best
planetary imagers in the world so i'm
just super excited about that
uh you know so i've been working on this
all day we've got
i don't know maybe upwards of something
like 40
astronomers that are going to be on
we're doing in the sec in segments so
there's going to be like this um
three o'clock uh presentation which is
at
uh oh 900 utc we've got a
seven o'clock presentation here in
arkansas central time
1300 utc we've got
a 10 a.m
segment that will be at 1600 utc and
then we've got a 150 almost two o'clock
150 presentation at 1950 utc and then an
evening presentation at 4 45 pm or
or 22 45 utc so
uh that is five presentations today it's
all about this great conjunction
uh i you know i just don't want people
to miss it and we've got
i mean this is really one of the biggest
global star parties we've ever done
uh and so i'm super super excited about
it
uh you know and i've been up all day
getting it ready
i it's now almost one o'clock in the
morning here
and i've got to be back here uh in a
roughly an hour so i'm going to go eat
take a
half hour nap and come on back so
if i if my eyes look a little uh red or
whatever
then that's just the way it is because
uh this is just such a major
astronomical event hasn't happened like
this in 800 years so
i guess i can stay up for it guys so um
so anyways i can see will you sleep at
all tonight sky i don't know
you know i might just be like staring at
the ceiling all night
um but uh uh we've got uh
we've got some really uh great uh
astronomers
um and um you know hopefully
uh you're out looking at this thing as
well i if you got clear skies uh
you know and it's getting towards
evening where you are
you've got to see it you're going to
have a few more days of incredible
conjunction viewing so you're going to
want to watch this
uh and and i hope you do because i you
know i just
i just it would be it would break my
heart to know that
uh that we saw it and you didn't so
um we're bringing it to you there'll be
live images through telescopes there's
gonna be poetry
this whole event is being co-hosted by
the royal astronomical society of canada
they brought some of their iconic
astronomers on as well
but we've got northern and southern
hemisphere astronomers working on this
so i'm really excited and you know i
want to thank some people
uh right now uh you know certainly uh
david levy david eicher
libby and the stars deep team uh gautam
is going to be in for nepal
uh we've got uh astronomers from africa
um and uh you know throughout uh
europe thanks to mike simmons you know
who uh
ran astronomers without borders but he
knows astronomers from
from all over the world so he
collaborated with me
uh to put this thing together as well so
i'm excited about that
um and then we've got uh you know iconic
astronomers in the southern hemisphere
uh including alain mari uh in the
atacama desert
uh we've got uh cesar brolo and rodrigo
soleda
um but it's gonna be fun you guys and
the astronomical league is going to help
out too they're going to do door prizes
uh so we'll see when it all happens
go to to learn when i'm going to put it
in the chat here you're going to go to
www.explore
forward slash live and you're going to
see the calendar
and it's it's we're going to broadcast
five times today
and uh so it all happens today from
early morning
starting at 3 a.m central uh
lasting all the way into the evening so
we'll be
signing off at various times uh just to
kind of break up the session and to let
us get something to eat
and eat and maybe sleep a little bit i
am a little bit tired but
i am just super excited so
um want you guys to go and check it out
and um um and uh
you know i i want you to see it uh i'd
love for you guys to see it with your
naked eye though
uh the images are wonderful but
there is nothing like seeing it for real
in in
with your own naked eyes so get out
there get some binoculars
dig out your telescope whatever you got
to do or just go out and see with the
naked eye
because it's it's something that uh you
won't see again in your lifetime and
it's something that hasn't been seen
in 800 years so um
check it out also you can go to if you
want to learn more about it
you can download a free copy of the
global astronomy magazine called skies
up
and you just go to www dot
explore scientific
tific i can hardly spell it right now
forward slash
skies up and you can get your own copy
so thanks everybody and we'll see you
very very soon in fact we're going to
see you in about uh
two hours so a little bit less uh
take care and and uh keep looking up
